I started taking CBD to help with my anxiety and sleep

December 28, 2020

For as long as I can remember, I have always had difficulty sleeping so I started taking CBD to help with my anxiety and sleep in October of this year. Because of my past addictive personality, I was hesitant to try CBD Oil at first because I didn’t know enough about it for me to give it a go. I had been prescribed Mirtazapine before and while that helped me with sleep and anxiety, I had to stop that medication after a few months because it made me feel extremely drowsy which wasn’t good for my hour and a half drive to work at 6 in the morning.

A good friend of mine asked me last year if I’ve tried CBD Oil because he uses it for his anxiety so I had it in the back of my head to try and when my best girl friend gave me a bottle of Canndid CBD tincture and Canndid CBD gummies, the opportunity was too good to pass up even though it took me a week of pep talk before I actually used it.

So let me back up a little and give you a brief introduction to CBD.

What is CBD, you ask?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol, which is a component of the Cannabis sativa plant (known as marijuana or hemp). Unlike THC, which is the best-known compound of cannabis and the ingredient that actually gets you high, CBD is NOT psychoactive and doesn’t alter a person’s state of mind.

CBD is commonly used for epilepsy and have been proclaimed by many to be good for anxiety and pain management.

I’ve only been using CBD for close to 2 months now and I can honestly say it has improved my sleep. The first time I used CBD, I was in bed and I took 3 drops of CBD tincture under my tongue. My issue with sleep is that no matter how tired I am, I can’t sleep. My brain is too active and it’s usually between 12 to 3am in the morning when it decides it needs to find out random things like “Where can I stand up paddle board in Ireland?” or “Depression when happy” or “Sometimes I just want to disappear” or “Appetite Suppressant PCOS” or “Do dogs know how much we love them”.

The first night I took CBD, I conked out and I’m not exaggerating when I say I had the best sleep that night. I didn’t feel drowsy the next day, which was a good sign. I’m not a big fan of any medication that makes you feel drowsy or slow thereby reducing your productivity level.

There are days when my brain is so restless that my normal coping mechanisms like reading or writing doesn’t work but in the weeks that I’ve been taking CBD tincture and CBD gummies, I’ve noticed that they’ve helped alleviate my overwhelmed emotions.

The past few days since my Christmas break, I have been so overwhelmed with this fear of impending doom and have forgotten to take my CBD tincture, I bought e-books to read on my Kindle but I was over stimulated that I ended up sleeping it off.

I remembered to take my CBD tincture last night so I’m in a much better frame of mind today hence I decided to write this blog post in ode to CBD.

Dealing with anxiety and dealing with life, in general is tough and is an everyday battle. We gotta take what we can to make it more manageable so if you’re struggling especially with another lockdown due to COVID-19 and you haven’t tried CBD yet, you should seriously consider adding it to your diet. They come in many forms, as a tincture where you take it as drops under your tongue. They come as gummies and they also come in soft gel capsule form. I highly recommend Canndid products because it’s the ones I currently use and has benefitted me greatly but you can choose to use other trusted brands.

My anxiety isn’t cured. There’s no magical pill that’ll cure that. I still feel the racing heart and overactive brain but CBD has definitely helped with calming my anxiety. If you want to learn more about the best way to take CBD, you can read this beginner’s guide here.
